It has been one month today since I started. I weighed last week and the scale showed I was down 20 pounds, but I don't have faith in that scale! I put new batteries in it last week, but weighing on that one and then immediately after on another one shows a 10 pound difference. So whatever. What I do know is that I feel better, and I look better. My face no longer looks like a watermelon every morning. My clothes are just starting to fit better (like they should have all along instead of being so stretched out).
Every single day I start with a protein shake. Without fail. Every single day. I also add in one container of 80 calorie greek yogurt to really amp up the protein. That generally keeps me full until lunch time. Lunch during the week at work is always two Asian veggie burgers topped with Sweet Thai Asian sauce from Trader Joe's. Sometimes I get hungry mid afternoon, sometimes not. I keep baby carrots in the fridge, and sometimes I have another container of Greek Yogurt.
When I get home, my dinners vary. Sometimes it is two veggies patties on a bed of cauliflower rice. Sometimes a pizza with homemade cauliflower crust, homemade sauce and topped with turkey pepperoni (this is so filling that one pizza makes two dinners). This seems to be keeping my craving for pizza under control if I make this once a week. Another dinner is 2-3 eggs over easy on two slices of 40 calorie toasted bread, and a little sugar free maple syrup over the eggs. All of these are things I really enjoy eating and totally fill me up. I rarely eat in the evenings anymore; if I do it is a handful of grapes or a container of sugar free jello.
So for the most part I really haven't had any trouble sticking to this. I've had to go out to eat a few times recently and both times I ordered a side salad with fat free dressing as my entrée. My parents wanted to go to Fazoli's for grandparent's day this past Sunday. Normally I would have ordered fettucini alfredo. This time I ordered two side salads and asked them to put them into one bowl, and had one packet of FF Italian dressing (15 calories). The whole thing was around 60 calories and very filling. Passed up the breadsticks too!
In the back of my mind is always our upcoming trip to Chicago the first weekend in October to see Steve Martin and Martin Short at the Chicago Theatre. We have never been there so I have no idea how tight the seats will be. Every place we have been this year I have not been able to fit into the theatre seats: Disney Land to see the Frozen play, Kansas City MO to see Green Day - it has gotten to the point where I don't want to go anywhere with individual seats because I know I won't fit. Airline seats: we always fly Southwest so I can get an extra seat (which they reimburse the cost of after your flight) and of course I always have my seatbelt extenders with me so I don't have to ask for one (have to carry three extenders depending on which belt that plane uses). There are concerts and plays and things I would like to go to but I'm not going to take the chance of not fitting in the seat yet again.
I continue to have problems with my back that I hurt a few weeks ago. That has severely limited my activities. I'm hoping to be able to get back to walking with 2-3 weeks.
So overall I am doing extremely well with my eating plan, not well with physical activity due to my back, and forever continuing to wrestle with that voice in my head that puts me down, tells me I will fail, nothing will ever change, and being fat is my destiny. I wonder if that will ever change.
